Malibu California
The City of Malibu was incorporated on March 28, 1991. Located in
Northwest Los Angeles County, the City has 21 miles of coastline along
the Pacific Ocean. Malibu is a closely knit residential community
characterized by its carefully preserved rural atmosphere. Malibu's
combined incorporated and unincorporated areas covers approximately
45,000 acres, is 27 miles long and one to eight miles wide. Within these
boundaries are a variety of climates and terrain including beaches,
mesas and canyons that create a unique environment. The population is
approximately 27,800.
From the Malibu Civic Center area, travel time to the Santa Monica
Airport is about 30 minutes, 45 minutes to Los Angeles International
Airport and one hour to downtown Los Angeles...all of course depending
upon traffic.
The historic Adamson House, a showplace of renowned Malibu tiles, and
the Malibu Lagoon Museumare located at 23200 Pacific Coast Hwy., on a
panoramic view site overlooking Surfrider Beach and the Malibu Pier.
Hours are 11 am - 3 pm, Wednesday - Saturday. Docent led tours giving
insight into the unique history of Malibu are available; the last tour
begins at 2 pm. Tuesday is reserved for groups and reservations may be
obtained by calling 310-456-8432. There is a County parking lot adjacent
to the Museum (parking is prohibited on the Museum grounds). A fee is
charged for parking. The museum's Gift Shop hours are also 11 am - 3 pm,
Wednesday -Saturday. They can be reached at 310-456-9378.
The J. Paul Getty Museum in Malibu is undergoing extensive remodeling
and is currently closed. When it is reopened, it will feature the best
of the Getty's Greek and Roman antiquities, dating from 3,000 B.C. to
300 A.D. The museum itself is a recreation of the Villa dei Papiri in
Italy which was destroyed by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. The new Getty
Center is located at 1200 Getty Center Drive, Los Angeles 90049 and is
open to the public. Reservations are necessary and may obtained by
calling 310-440-7360.
Surfrider Beach, Zuma Beach and Leo Carrillo Beach are the most popular
beaches in the area. Public access to other beaches along the highway is
marked for your convenience, or you can refer to one of the maps on this
site. The National Park Service (1-818-597-9192) or the CA Dept. of
Parks & Recreation (1-818-880-0350) can provide you with maps and
information regarding parks and hiking trails in the Malibu area. You

Goods and services may be obtained from quaint shopping areas located
along the highway. A wide variety of overnight accommodations and eating

Pepperdine University and the HRL Laboratories are located in the Santa
Monica Mountains overlooking the Pacific Ocean. There is no major
industry in Malibu, so employment opportunities are generally within the
small business sector.
Many celebrities and entertainment industry executives live and work in
